Ayub (49) nearly won a $1 million teaching award, but now finds himself in an asylum center in Someren, separated from his family

In 2016, he was one of the ten finalists for the Global Teacher Prize, a prestigious award worth 1 million dollars. Today, Ayub Mohamud Abdi resides in the asylum center at De Hoof in Someren and works at McDonald’s. His wife and children remain in Kenya.
